RIO COLORADO
Finca Rio Colorado is located in Capucas, Copán, on the outskirts of the Honduran cloud forest Celaque National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. At 1,800 meters above sea level, this lush farm is named after the two rivers that run on either side, creating an ideal oasis for cultivating coffee. Named after the farm, these coffee beans come from a Pareinema varietal, which was developed in Honduras. The producers Mabel Ortiz and Francisco Galeano, Odysea Coffee partners, use a washed method to process these cherries resulting in a fresh and lively cup with notes of chocolate, brown sugar, honey and dried fruits.
Farm Story:
Finca Rio Colorado is more than just a coffee farm—it’s a legacy. For four generations, the Galeano Ortiz family has been cultivating coffee all over Honduras. In 2014, Mabel Ortiz and Francisco Galeano, Odysea coffee partners, in collaboration with Umami Area, bought Finca Rio Colorado, a large coffee farm (40 hectares or 98 acres) situated on the outskirts of Celaque National Park, the most mountainous area in Honduras. They have worked hard for the past 10 years to increase the coffee quality by introducing new varieties, processing methods, and more sustainable practices. Finca Rio Colorado is a Slow Food certified farm.Beyond coffee production, Finca Rio Colorado is a hub for community: partnering with Odysea Coffee to host coffee tours and sharing their passion and story with visitors from around the world.
